QUARANTINE LIFE: STAY PUT

The last time I ventured out of my neighborhood was March 5.
While waiting at a red light that afternoon, I saw a guy throwing on the ground what looked like cereal. As soon as he walked away, several birds swooped in and began feasting. I’m not sure why, but the thought of that scene inspired me today to be grateful, content-- and order some Special K.

I’d decided I would take a short ride this afternoon, but when I turned the car’s ignition, all I heard was rapid clicking. I’d heard that sound before. I checked the interior lights and front beams. Everything was lighting up, except the engine.

Maybe I wasn’t supposed to go anywhere.
Maybe my car was pouting, considering it hasn’t moved in weeks. How many times did I tell myself in the last several weeks, “Go start the car”, but I didn’t listen?

I could have been angry or discouraged. I could have cried or complained, but why? It was one of those last straw, non- life-or-death things that had the potential to depress me, but I just came back inside, watched TV, then fixed dinner.
Of course, I’ve run out of my preferred snacks, but what I need is here.

Just like those birds, my needs are met.
This time is weird.
I’m a homebody, so it’s not a struggle, so I figured I can wait until daylight to contact roadside assistance, read about batteries, starter motors and solenoids, continue to do my part in flattering the curve, and stay put.
