QUARANTINE LIFE: HINDSIGHT IN 2020

PANDEMIC

Can't tell them a thing, 'cause they know better
Their logic, like their heads, is full of holes
Many thousands gone without a battle
Useless thoughts and prayers over their souls

Still trying to keep the party going
Everybody pleading, "Shut it down"
Dancing like they didn't hear the warning
Inmates digging trenches in the ground

But why is that the way?
Why do we always wait
For the worst of possibilities to happen
Before we wake up
Before we change?

Happy talking won't erase the data
Or the deep lines etched in every nurse's face
As always, some won't think they have to listen
'Til they mourn what they're not able to replace

Then, they'll hang their heads and say they're sorry
If they'd known, they would have changed their selfish ways;
Paid much more attention to the wisdom
Skipped the foolishness of yesterday

But why is that the way?
Why do we always wait
For the worst of possibilities to happen
Before we wake up
Before we change?
