TUESDAY THOUGHTS: POETRY PROMPT---WATCH YOUR WORDS

SOCIAL MEDIA

I keep seeing statuses most foul
That make me want to weep
Just can't see the necessity
So now I must delete.
I've taken a few chances
To appeal to those who write
"You may be mad, but that looks bad-
More wrong is never right."

I don't need an apology
Just hate to see someone
Engage in such stupidity
All in the name of fun.
A party pooper? Maybe so.
Don't mean to judge, or whine.
Some see the point, while others think
The low road is just fine.

It's not some heathen, crazy folk
But those who, when you look,
Declare how much they love the Lord
And read His sacred Book.
I'm not a prude--
Just don't like rude and lewd behavior
Still,
I wish you well, but I can't tell
Ignorant, or ill?

Why don't you care about the way
You send into the air,
The very contents of your heart?
Are there no tame words there?
Does even talk of simple things
Require nasty words?
Is it just me?
The willy-nilly filth is just absurd!
Every time you turn around
Word bombs here, and there
Did Spelling, Speech, and Grammar
Flee our schools along with Prayer?

Perhaps, to you, it's no big deal
Perhaps it's all just fun
But don't you know that cursing here
Means cursing everyone?
Hoochies on parade
Gratuitous profanity
When, here in Cyberspace
There's no such thing as privacy

Sure, "Do you", by all means, do
But why are you the one
You've chosen to debase yourself?
And no, I'm not quite done
If this is what you're going to do
Be crass, and rude, and all
At least remove your children, church, and pastor
From your wall.

We're all different, and I'm no saint
Don't do all perfectly
But some tired of the Word of God
And soon deleted me
They said, "That's not what Facebook's for!
This isn't cyber church!"
To prove how free they really were
Their statuses got worse.

So, quietly, today, I just decided "That's enough"
I like Facebook
And can delete, or hide the yucky stuff
I've tried to welcome everyone
Can't do it anymore
Time to show some Facebook "friends"
The nearest exit door.
