POETRY PROMPT: OPEN A WINDOW

Worried about the sound that it will make?
If you push too hard, or touch it
Will it break?
Is there someone waiting to hear an alarm?
Why should something ordinary bring you harm?

If you were free
You'd open a window
Air out the space you're in
And feel the breeze
If you were free
You'd open a window
Invite the Sun
Commune as one
No need to ask, or fear
Do as you please

It shouldn't take so long to feel at home
It's hard to thrive in spaces not your own
You make the best of it, and find your voice
Remembering, it's you who made the choice

If you were free
You'd open a window
Air out the space you're in
And feel the breeze
If you were free
You'd open a window
Invite the Sun
Commune as one
No need to ask, or fear
Do as you please

Is it in your mind
Or is it real?
Is there a reason why you feel the way you feel?
Just see what happens
Fling it open
See there's nothing there to fear
All of that wasted time in darkness
It's okay, today is here

If you were free
You'd open a window
Air out the space you're in
And feel the breeze
If you were free
You'd open a window
Invite the Sun
Commune as one
No need to ask, or fear
Do as you please
